FAQs

  • Hormones are chemicals made by your specialized glands called the endocrine glands. These glands release different hormones that get distributed to different parts of your body to facilitate different bodily functions. Hormones control many bodily functions.

Examples of bodily functions controlled by hormones include human growth, thirst and hunger control, body temperature control, mood regulation, metabolic activity, reproduction, and sexual function. When your hormones are unbalanced, your body struggles to function properly.

  • Bioidentical hormones are originally derived from a molecule called diosgenin in either soy or yam. Through a series of chemical processes, the plant molecule, which is structurally similar to a steroid hormone, is converted to the specific human hormone molecule in a laboratory. The final product has no trace of the plant—just the pure biologically identical hormone.

Bioidentical hormones convey the same action and impact, are metabolized into the same downstream metabolites, have the same binding affinity, and are expected to restore normal physiology. The molecular difference between non-biologically identical hormones and biologically identical hormones is responsible for their different actions in the human body.

It is especially important to note that the different hormones do not have the same risk profile, especially regarding cardiovascular, clotting, and breast cancer risk factors. Confusion about different types of HRT is due to the lack of clear distinction between the molecular formulas and the lack of focus on their significantly different impacts on the body.

  • Age

Age-related decline in hormone levels is the most common cause of hormone imbalance and deficiency. Levels of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone all decline as we grow older.

    Stress

Stress causes DHEA and cortisol to become abnormal. These are precursors to our other hormones.

    Weight Gain

Weight gain affects hormone levels, which then affect metabolism.

    Diet

Poor diet results in nutritional deficiencies, then causing hormone imbalance.

    Ovarian and Testicular Dysfunction

Ovaries/testes can simply fail to produce enough hormones.

    Other Glands

Imbalance in thyroid and adrenal function facilitates hormone imbalance, and much more.
